Date: 13 June 2017
Release: Immediate
Type: Speech

Note to editors: The following speeches were delivered by DA Mpumalanga Chief Whip, Jane Sithole MPL, in the Mpumalanga Legislature during a sitting today.

Second Reading: Mpumalanga Appropriation Bill [B1-2017] – This budget is not for the people

This extract was taken from the debate on the Mpumalanga Appropriation Bill:

“Hon. Speaker, our province and country are in a crisis, and this budget presented today will do nothing towards solving the structural inequalities that still plague us today. This budget will not have a positive effect as long as corruption, maladministration and nepotism are the order of the day.

As long as SADTU continues to control the department of education, nothing will change.

As long as shoddy contractors continue to receive tenders to build houses for our people nothing will change.

As long as officials use state hospitals as employment agencies to put their family members, nothing will improve.

As long as MEGA is backed to drive economic growth in the province, nothing will change.

As long as municipalities fail to perform and the MEC refuses to intervene, nothing will change.”
