On Thursday 5 July 2018, DA Mpumalanga Spokesperson on Health, Jane Sithole MPL, and DA Shadow Minister of Health, Patricia Kopane MP, will brief the media on the DA’s rescue plan for the province’s embattled Health Department.
The DA will give a detailed outline on the effect the Health Department’s financial mismanagement has had on the 3.9 million residents of Mpumalanga who depend on the state for healthcare.
The Health Department does not have the funds needed to effectively manage the province’s clinics and hospitals. This has had an adverse effect on emergency medical services, the provincial HIV treatment plans, the National Health Insurance pilot as well as access to basic healthcare.
Healthcare professionals are leaving the province in their numbers because the working conditions are unbearable, there is a lack of equipment and they have to endure very long working hours without adequate compensation due to maladministration at every level in the department.
For years, former premier David Mabuza looked on as his close ally Health MEC Gillion Mashego plundered the health department’s resources while the people of Mpumalanga suffered.
The DA’s plan will provide a turnaround strategy that will ensure that the people of Mpumalanga are granted their Constitutional right to quality healthcare.
Details for the briefing are scheduled as follows:
Date: 05 July 2018
Place: DA Boardroom, Building 1, Government Boulevard, Legislature and, Government Complex, Riverside Park Ext 2
The will be opportunities for photographs and interviews.
